Costco comps increase in June
Headwinds from fuel price fluctuations and currency exchange rates lessened for Costco in June as the retailer posted a bump in same store sales.
The warehouse club reported net sales of $11.01 billion for the month of June, the five weeks ended July 5, an increase of 1% from $10.88 billion during the similar period last year.Same store sales, excluding the negative impacts from gasoline price deflation and foreign exchange, were 6%.
Costco posted a comp slide in the three months ended May 10, the first quarterly drop for the warehouse-club retailer since 2009.
Costco currently operates 679 warehouses, including 479 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 89 in Canada, 36 in Mexico, 26 in the United Kingdom, 20 in Japan, 11 in Korea, 10 in Taiwan, seven in Australia and one in Spain. The company plans to open up to an additional eight new warehouses prior to the end of its fiscal year on Aug. 30.
