Consumbales boost Family Dollar July sales
MATTHEWS, N.C. Family Dollar Stores reported that net sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 2 increased 7.2% to $527.1 million, compared with $491.7 million in 2007. Total sales for the four-week period were strongest in the consumables category; sales of apparel were soft. Comparable-store sales for July increased 4.6%.
The company expects that comparable-store sales in August will increase 2% to 4%.
