Connecticut center gives Rouse a foothold in Northeast

10/20/2016

Until this week, Rouse Properties’ northeastern-most retail possession was The Centre at Salisbury in Maryland. But its purchase this week of an 115,000-sq.-ft. center outside of Hartford, Connecticut, gives the developer a footprint planted firmly in New England.

The Shops at Somerset Square in Glastonbury, which the company bought for $42 million, features a lineup of national names such as Francesca’s, Chico’s, Talbots, and Victoria’s Secret, along with regional merchants like Lux, Bond & Green Jewelers, and Max Fish.

CEO Brian Harper called the center a “compelling addition” to Rouse’s portfolio. “It allows us to enter the fundamentally strong Northeast market and add another dominant retail center where we have the opportunity to create additional value by enhancing the merchandising mix and shopping experience,” he said in a statement announcing the acquisition.
