Clarks Americas has moved its head office to a historic location that provides employee- and eco-centric amenities.
After setting up shop in Newton Upper Falls for nearly 18 years, the footwear brand has moved into the historic Polaroid building in Waltham, Mass. The 120,000-sq.-ft., four-story office houses Clarks’s design and marketing operations, and retail and wholesale business support — divisions that are comprised of more than 400 employees.
“The revitalization and move into this historic building is a tremendous milestone for our company,” said Mike Shearwood, the brand’s newly appointed CEO. “It reinforces our commitment to the Metro Boston area, as well as our confidence in this community as we poise ourselves for continued growth in the Americas.”
Clarks worked alongside Boston Properties, Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, and ADD (which is now part of architecture, interior design, planning, and branding firm Stantec), to design the office’s exterior and interior. The building is registered under the LEED green building program with the certification goal of LEED Gold, having been built with energy efficiency and recycled materials, including a solar-paneled roof.
The new office also features amenities for the staff including:
• an expansive roof deck;
• a 5,000-ft. private outdoor terrace;
• an employee retail store;
• an employee fitness center;
• 10-ft. high windows;
• 50-ft. skylights;
• a three-story lobby;
• covered parking; and
• an employee bike sharing program.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open our new headquarters in Waltham,” added Gary Champion, president of Clarks Americas. “For over 20 years we have called the Metro Boston area home. This is a vibrant community that offers undeniable talent and resources.”
