Charming Shoppes suffers 4Q loss

BENSALEM, Pa. Charming Shoppes reported a fourth quarter loss from continuing operations of $39 million, or 34 cents per diluted share; on a GAAP basis, the company reported a loss from continuing operations of $108.5 million, or 94 cents per diluted share.

The company's loss from continuing operations, on a GAAP basis, compares to a loss from continuing operations for the thirteen weeks ended Feb. 2, 2008 of $44.9 million, or 39 cents per diluted share.

Net sales from continuing operations for the quarter decreased 14% to $631.9 million. Consolidated comparable-store sales for the company's retail stores segment decreased 15% during the thirteen weeks ended Jan. 31.
