Changes under way for Toys 'R' Us
WAYNE, N..J. According to reports in Australia, the first Babies "R" Us store will open in Sydney’s western suburbs.
The store will replace an existing Toys "R" Us store in Bankstown Home Central, and the Toys "R" Us store will be relocated alongside the new baby store. The move follows a similar trend in Europe, where Toys "R" Us is actively expanding its baby store concept.
Meanwhile, back in the retailer’s home state of New Jersey, the company is seeking to boost its bottom line by combining both the toy and baby stores.
The restructuring will be featured across the United States, the company said.
Last month, two superstores opened in Elizabeth, N.J., and California. The Elizabeth store, reports said, is converted from a stand-alone to a superstore.
“We have plenty of evidence that this is successful,” said Jerry Storch, ceo and chairman of Toys “R” Us, last month. “This is a major, major shift in this company’s direction from a positions of relative retreat into a position of growth, into an aggressive mode.”
