Carrefour Denies Wal-Mart Takeover

London, Carrefour SA denied a report in the British newspaper Sunday Mail that stated that Wal-Mart is interested in bidding to take over the French retailer. The newspaper reported that Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott and Carrefour chairman Luc Vandevelde have talked within the last month about a takeover bid or Wal-Mart’s acquisition of certain Carrefour stores.

Carrefour denied the paper’s report. A Carrefour spokeswoman said, “It isn’t true. There are no discussions between Carrefour and Wal-Mart.” Speculation about Wal-Mart’s interest in Carrefour has been longstanding.
