Carl’s Jr. to Open Green Flagship

Carpinteria, Calif. Carl’s Jr. said Tuesday that it will open an environmentally friendly flagship location where sustainability, conservation and energy efficiency will be measured and evaluated. Successful results will push the chain to expand similar green initiatives company-wide at both Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants.

The new restaurant will feature ENERGY STAR-rated equipment; roofing material that is solar reflective and cuts heat absorption; a rainwater-reuse system; a smart-irrigation system to conserve water for landscape maintenance; and an energy-management system that controls temperature and lighting schedules.

The unit, which is constructed with low-emitting materials, will also feature LED parking lot lights, and a catalyst that converts charbroiler particulate into carbon dioxide and water. This will reduce smoke, odors and emissions.
