Cabela’s aims for secure checkout

5/25/2016

Specialty outdoor retailer Cabela’s Inc. is deploying POS hardware and software from Ingenico Group to make the final step of the in-store shopping process as safe and seamless as possible.

Sidney, Nebraska-based Cabela’s is using Ingenico ISC Touch 250 smart terminals at its 80-plus U.S. and Canadian stores. The POS stations offer a full range of upselling/cross-selling capabilities, such as the ability to display digital advertisements, videos and gift card promotions.

Recently, the retailer also implemented peer-to-peer encryption (P2PE) to further protect customer card data. In order to complete the implementation, Cabela’s installed base of Ingenico POS terminals required application updates and key management. Using the Ingenico Offline Remote Key Injection (Offline RKI) solution, the chain was able to update its terminals remotely, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars and helping to ease the P2PE implementation.

“Cabela’s is focused on providing customers with legendary customer service and a great in-store experience, whether that’s on the retail floor or at the point of sale,” said Paul Stone, Cabela’s chief retail officer. “We decided that implementing point-to-point encryption would be a tremendous benefit to our business and to our customers. Ingenico Group’s ability to remotely upgrade its terminal keys via offline RKI made this process considerably easier for Cabela’s and our store managers with minimal disruption to our business.”
