Burlington Coat Factory reports Q1 profit

Burlington, N.J. Burlington Coat Factory reversed a year-ago loss in the fiscal first quarter as revenue improved, the company said Thursday.

During the three months ended May 1, the privately held company's net income totaled $5.2 million, compared with a loss of $36.9 million last year.

Revenue rose 8% to $894.7 million from $830 million a year ago, while same-store sales rose 3.3% during the quarter.

Burlington Coat Factory operates 448 stores nationwide.
