Burlington Coat Factory reports 3Q comps decrease

BURLINGTON, N.J. Burlington Coat Factory reported that net sales were $1.02 billion for the third quarter ended Feb. 28 compared with $987.1 million for the period ended March 1, 2008, a 3.4% increase.

According to the company, the increase in net sales primarily resulted from the opening of 31 net new stores from March 2, 2008 through February 28. Comparative-stores sales decreased by 4.3% versus the same period last year.

The company reported a net loss of $150.8 million compared with net income of $26.8 million last year.
