Burlington Coat Factory comps down 8%

BURLINGTON, N.J. Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse announced today reported net sales of $946.6 million for the second quarter ended Dec. 1 compared with net sales of $984.8 million for the same period ended Dec. 2, a 3.9% decrease.

The company reported that comparable-store sales for the quarter were down 8%, due to a combination of unusually warm weather during most of the quarter and weak consumer demand.

Net sales from continuing operations for the six months ended Dec. 1 were $1.625 billion compared with $1.642 billion for the comparative period ended Dec. 2, 2006, a 1% decrease. These results reflect a 5.6% comparable-store sales decrease for the six-month period.
