Buckle 2Q Profit Up 89%

Kearney, Neb. Buckle Inc. said Thursday its second-quarter profit rose 89%, as it reported sales gains of nearly 30% at stores open at least a year.

For the three months ended Aug. 2, the company earned $22.3 million compared with a year-ago profit of $11.8 million.

Revenue climbed 37% to $169.8 million, up from $124.3 million during the same period last year.

Buckle's results included a $3 million gain from an insurance payout for the destruction of a company jet in a Nebraska tornado.

The company's same-store sales rose 27.8% for the quarter.
