Brookshire Bros. reduces corporate staff

Lufkin, Texas Grocery retailer Brookshire Bros. said Friday it has cut corporate staff by 47. According to a report by Supermarket News, the move came after a cost-cutting study by an outside consulting firm.

The cuts were made from the chain's corporate office, distribution center and bakery. No reductions were made at store level.

"Many companies have been required to look at what they do well and where they can improve," the company said in a prepared statement. "This move is painful for all of us, but it will help us be more competitive in the long run."

Brookshire Bros. operates 72 supermarket locations and 30 convenience stores.
