Borders says talks with Whitcoulls over

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Borders Group ceo George Jones today confirmed that it has ended its discussions with A&R Whitcoulls. According to reports, Borders considered buying a large stake in Whitcoulls.

"While Borders has a policy of not commenting on the strategic alternatives process unless or until an agreement is reached, we can confirm that we were in negotiations with A&R Whitcoulls regarding our Australia/New Zealand businesses, but at this time have ceased those negotiations. We will continue to explore meaningful opportunities with the goal of reaching an agreement that meets our company's objectives," said Jones.
