Borders launches summer book drive for children's literacy

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Borders announced that it has launched a company-wide summer book drive with the goal of increasing children's literacy. During the previous company-sponsored book drive held in March, Borders stores partnered with hundreds of charities and nonprofits, and through the generosity of customers, delivered more than 600,000 titles and 85,000 stuffed toys to kids in need, the company reported.

For the current book drive, which lasts through Aug. 30, Borders stores have partnered with such local and national organizations as Reach Out and Read Michigan, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Rainbow House in Chicago, Raising a Reader Massachusetts, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and many others. Over the course of the book drive, store associates will encourage customers to donate enriching books including titles from the Junie B. Jones, Magic Treehouse and Ramona and Beezus series, as well as a number of picture books for very young readers.
