Bon-Ton to participate in Chicago youth program

6/15/2009

YORK, Pa. The Bon-Ton Stores announced its participation in Mayor Daley’s Youth Ready Chicago Program which connects young people ages 14 to 24, with internships, apprenticeships and jobs within Chicago’s public and private business sectors.

This program, fully funded by stimulus dollars provided to the city, focuses on youth who are in the 100% poverty level, many of whom have probably not had a job in the past. The participants will work up to 30 hours per week for up to 10 weeks. They will be paid directly through hubs established by the city.

Bon-Ton will focus on applicants between the ages of 18 to 24 years of age who have applied for opportunities through May 29 in order to begin employment in the beginning of July. The following Carson Pirie Scott stores have been identified as sites for this internship program: Evergreen, Harlem Irving, North Riverside, Lincolnwood, Edens Plaza, Ford City and Chicago Ridge. The Company anticipates sponsoring approximately 30 youth in the program.
