Bon-Ton 2Q Loss Wider Than Expected

York, Pa. Bon-Ton Stores Inc. reported a wider second-quarter loss Thursday, though adjusted results topped Wall Street expectations, helped by reduced selling, general and administrative expenses.

The company reported a loss of $33.8 million for the three months ended Aug. 2, compared with a loss of $15 million in the same period last year.

Sales fell 5% to $673.4 million from $708.6 million in the prior-year period. Same-store sales fell 5.7% in the quarter.
