B&N launches 'how-to' site

3/24/2008

NEW YORK Barnes & Noble has launched a new how-to Web site designed to give users accurate, expert-written information on a variety of topics. According to the company, the site, Quamut.com, derived from the Latin for how-to, features guides that are fact-checked, copy edited and easy to read.

Quamut.com positions Barnes & Noble as a leader in digital how-to publishing, said Dan Weiss, publisher and managing director of Quamut.com. We simultaneously publish everything in two formats, to the web as both HTML content and as downloadable PDFs. And in some cases, we actually publish in three formats, adding a four-to-six page laminated printed chart available at Barnes & Noble stores and Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com).

Barnes & Noble said that users who want to contribute to Quamut.com's content can do so through its sister site Q-Wiki (wiki.quamut.com).
