B&N delays in-store Nook sales

12/9/2009

Consumers will have to wait to get their hands on a Nook e-reader, as Barnes & Noble is holding off on providing inventory to the stores until after the holidays.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Barnes & Noble said it has been overwhelmed by demand for the e-book device and that customers who ordered the Nook after Nov. 20 wouldn't receive it until the week of Jan. 4. Last week, the company announced that current orders won't ship until Jan. 15.

The retailer had previously announced that the Nook would be available at certain high-volume stores on Dec. 7. The Nook is available for demonstration purposes at all stores.

According to the report, Barnes & Noble has begun shipping the Nook to the first customers who placed orders.
