Bloomie’s Digital Showplace

11/4/2014

Befitting its Silicon Valley locale, Bloomingdale’s new 125,000-sq.-ft. outpost in Stanford Shopping Center, Palo Alto, California, is outfitted with a wide array of tech flourishes to make shopping easier.

The offerings include a service that allows customers to buy online and pick up items at the store, and same-day delivery of merchandise purchased online (within a 15-mile radius). bWallet, a digital wallet, gives shoppers a single place to store special offers and reward cards to redeem either on site or on bloomingdales.com. And all sales associates are outfitted with mobile checkout devices.

But attracting the most attention are the “smart” fitting rooms, which are equipped with wall-mounted tablets that allow customers to look up product information and reviews, and call for assistance. The mirrors have touch-screen lighting options, so a customer can see how a garment looks in different environments. All fitting room areas also contain communal tables with charging stations where guests can mingle — and reboot.
