Blockbuster expands subscription services
DALLAS Shortly after announcing that it would focus on its online subsription service following a quarterly revenue decrease of 2.8%, Blockbuster Inc. today said it is expanding its subscription programs including Blockbuster Total Access Premium, Blockbuster Total Access, and Blockbuster By Mail.
According to Blockbuster, the subscription plans range from $4.99 to $16.99 per month, depending on the type of service. The company also announced that online subscribers will now have the option of exchanging their online movies for discounted in-store game rentals as well as free in-store movie rentals.
"Blockbuster's wide array of online rental offerings continues to offer subscribers the best value in the marketplace. With multiple subscription plans to choose from, we're giving our customers the ability to choose the option that's right for them," said Jim Keyes, Blockbuster chairman and ceo. "We want to give consumers the most convenient access to media entertainment, whether that's through our stores or by mail, and are dedicated to doing that with flexible plans and pricing."
Blockbuster Inc. today reported that total revenues for the second quarter ended July 1 decreased 2.8% to $1.26 billion from $1.3 billion for the second quarter of 2006. For the second quarter of 2007, net loss was $35.3 million, or 20 cents per common share, as compared with net income of $68.4 million, or 31 cents per diluted common share, for the second quarter of 2006.
