BJ’s Announces Slight Increases for 2Q
Natick, Mass. BJ’s Wholesale Club announced Wednesday that cost-conscious shoppers helped the chain increase earnings.
Profit for the second quarter ended Aug. 2 was $36.5 million, up from $36.3 million a year earlier. Total sales for the quarter increased by 17.9% to $2.65 billion, compared with $2.25 billion for the second quarter 2007. Net income also increased for the first half of the year, reaching $53.7 million, up from $49.9 million last year. The company credits the increases to shoppers who visited the chain in search of low prices on food and fuel.
