Big Dog Holdings 1Q Loss Widens
Santa Barbara, Calif. Big Dog Holdings Inc., which sells shoes, apparel and accessories, said Tuesday its first-quarter net loss widened because of declining sales of its dog-themed apparel.
The company announced it would change its name to The Walking Co. Holdings Inc., reflecting an emphasis on premium-brand footwear.
The quarterly loss totaled $5 million compared with $4.1 million last year.
The company, which operates The Walking Co. stores and Big Dogs stores, said revenue rose 5% to $46.4 million from $44.2 million last year due to the opening of 41 new The Walking Co. stores.
However, same-store sales fell 1.9% for the quarter, with same-store sales at the Big Dogs chain dropping 6.6%.
Cost of goods sold and expenses both rose, offsetting the sales increase.
