Battle of the Twilight preview parties
Fans of the Twilight series have a hard choice to make on Feb. 10 when Walmart and Target are both hosting special events as they vie for sales of the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.”
The action gets underway at 11 p.m. at 2,700 Walmart stores nationwide on Feb. 10 when the retailer hosts what it is calling the ultimate Twilight party. Contributing to the “ultimateness” of the event will be special giveaways, movie trivia and the availability of Twilight-themed treats in the bakery and an appearance by Twilight character Rosalie Cullen on Walmart’s in-store TV network prior to the midnight availability of the two-disc DVD or Blu-ray of the movie.
“When it comes to entertainment, Walmart is the destination for new movie releases, video games, music and more,” said Seong Ohm, SVP and general manager of entertainment for Walmart U.S. “We’re excited to give the millions of Twilight fans a place to unite, celebrate and receive exclusive Breaking Dawn collectibles at a great price.”
The DVD or Blu-ray purchased at Walmart will come with such extras designed to make the package more appealing as Bella’s Wedding Special Edition collectible wedding dress packaging, a fabric poster of Bella and Edward’s wedding and music videos from Bruno Mars and Christina Perri. All for $22.96 for the DVD and $26.96 for the Blu-ray.
Not to be outdone, Target is hosting a party of its own, but only at 500 stores, touting the showing of a world premier scene from the fifth and final film as its exclusive angle.
“We’re making Target the Twilight Saga destination this February,” said John Butcher, VP entertainment at Target. “By extending our store hours, fans will not only get their hands on the exclusive merchandise first, but they’ll also get an exciting sneak peek of the final film.”
Target’s exclusive offer also includes an authentic prop flower from the movie’s wedding scene beautifully encased in an acrylic keepsake.
Target plans to begin distributing tickets for the DVD or Blu-ray beginning at 9 p.m. and then the special movie preview will take place at 11 p.m., followed by availability of the movie at midnight.
