WARRENDALE, Pa. and NEW YORK American Eagle Outfitters and Aeropostale reported Wednesday that total sales for the four weeks ended June 2 were $199.2 million and $88.1 million, respectively. For AE this represented an increase of 18% from $168.8 million for the four-week period ended May 27, 2006. Aeropostale also saw a large percentage gain in sales, 19.3% from $73.9 million for the four-week period ended May 27, 2006.

The companies did not fair as well in comparable-store sales with AE reporting a 5% increase, as compared to a 12% increase last year, and Aeropostale reporting a 1% increase.

Both companies saw strong sales growth in their respective year-to-date periods. American Eagle reported a 17% increase to $811.6 million, compared to $691.2 million for the 17-week period ended May 27, 2006. Aeropostale reported a 13.7% to $363.9 million, from $320.2 million in the prior year period.

For the year-to-date period the AE and Aeropostale reported comparable-store sales increases of 6% and 2.4%, respectively.
