A&P partners with local farmers

7/21/2008

MONTVALE, N.J. A&P has announced partnerships with local farmers in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland to provide the bounty of their farms to its stores in and around the Mid Atlantic region, making it the Northeast’s largest retailer of locally grown produce.

Under the partnership, Waldbaum’s and Pathmark stores on Long Island offer a variety of fruits and vegetables, including corn, tomatoes, green peppers, squash, romaine lettuce, cauliflower, cucumbers and white potatoes, produced from local farmers operating in the local communities.

To further support New York growers, A&P has created an innovative relationship with Foxy, generally a California lettuce supplier, in which a local farm, Scattered Acres, based in Chester, N.Y., will provide romaine hearts, green leaf and red leaf lettuce to A&P through the wholesaler. Reduced freight costs and shipping times will ensure that Waldbaum’s and Pathmark shoppers enjoy the freshest lettuce available and at the most affordable price.
