Amazon.com reports best holiday ever

SEATTLE The holidays were good to Amazon.com this year, which yesterday reported that this season was its best ever, with its busiest day being Dec. 10. According to the company, on Dec. 10 Amazon customers ordered more than 5.4 million items.

Amazon.com's sales were driven by must-have items such as the Nintendo Wii, the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" DVD and “I Am America (And So Can You)” by Stephen Colbert. The company also reported strong sales of apparel, food and beauty items. 

“We are very grateful to our customers,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and ceo of Amazon.com. “On behalf of Amazon.com employees around the globe, we wish everyone happy holidays and best wishes for 2008.”
