Amazon Posts Strongest-Ever Holiday Sales

Amazon.com Inc.’s shares rose more than 2% on Wednesday after the company said the 2007 holiday season was its strongest to date.

On Dec 10, its busiest day during the season, the retailer said shoppers ordered more than 5.4 million items, or 62.5 items per second.

The company also said it sold about 17 of Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s Wii video game systems per second when they had them in stock.

Shares of Amazon were up $2.13, or 2.3%, to $93.14 in afternoon trading on the NASDAQ Composite Index.
