Amazon offers prime dining option in Portland

10/20/2015

Hungry consumers in Portland just got a new option for convenient eating.

Amazon.com is enabling Prime Now customers in Portland to obtain free delivery from local restaurants and food carts. Using the Prime Now mobile app, Portland customers can view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders, track the status of their delivery, and watch as the driver travels from the restaurant to the delivery address in real time.

Once an order is placed, Amazon delivery drivers pick up and deliver the food within an hour or less.

“Portland has emerged as one of America’s best food cities,” said Gus Lopez, general manager, Amazon Restaurants. “With restaurant delivery on Prime Now, we’re excited to provide Portland residents with a fast and convenient way to try many of the restaurants that their friends and neighbors talk about without having to drive all over the city.”

Starting Oct. 20, restaurant delivery on Prime Now is available in select Portland ZIP codes and will expand in the coming days. In ZIP codes where restaurant delivery is available, customers will see Restaurants on the homepage.

Amazon rolled out the same local restaurant delivery feature to Prime Now customers in Seattle in September, following the launch of alcohol delivery in the Seattle area. The company has steadily expanded Prime Now’s product assortment and geographic range since it launched the service in New York City in 2014. Prime Now may never be able to offer all things to all things consumers, but clearly Amazon wants omnichannel shoppers to think of Prime Now to satisfy an increasingly varied range of needs.
