Amazon offers currency conversion feature

SEATTLE International shoppers on Amazon.com can now purchase products using their own currency, instead of U.S. dollars. The company has announced that it is now offering a Currency Converter service that supports payment cards demoninated in 11 currencies, including the euro, Japanese yen and Swiss franc.

Amazon said it expects to add more currencies over time. The company ships to more than 200 countries worldwide.

Since the launch of Amazon in 1995, weve served tens of millions of customers all around the world, said Jeff Wilke, Amazon.coms senior vp for North American retail. With the introduction of Amazon Currency Converter, were making it significantly easier for our customers regardless of where they live -- to purchase from Amazon.com. 

According to Amazon, the new feature will make it easier for international customers to shop on its site by giving them the exact amount of their purchase right away. Before, these customers would have had to wait until they received their payment statement to learn of the final purchase price.
