Amazon introduces same-day deliveries

Seattle Amazon.com said Thursday that people in New York, Las Vegas and five other U.S. cities will be able to get orders delivered on the same day, thanks to its new service called Local Express Delivery.

Local Express Delivery is also available in Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Seattle and Washington, D.C. It can be used for "thousands" of items, but not everything on the site. Amazon will flag eligible product

Shoppers who pay up front for upgraded shipping as part of Amazon's Prime program will be charged $5.99 for the service. For other customers, the prices per shipment vary. Orders must be placed by a certain time for each city.

The company plans to expand the same-day delivery service to Chicago, Indianapolis and Phoenix in the coming months.
