Amazon inches closer to the top in another category

6/24/2016

Watch out Best Buy, the nation’s largest ecommerce retailer is on your tail.

According to a report by barrons.com, Amazon has moved ahead of Walmart to take the number two spot, behind Best Buy, as the nation’s largest electronics retailer.

The report cites a note by Deutsche Bank’s hardlines retail analyst Mike Baker, who wrote that Amazon had a 17% share of electronics sale in 2015, up from 6.3% in 2010. Best Buy had a share of 22.7%, down from 25.6%. The only retailer to pick up market share last year outside of Amazon was Coscto, according to the report.

But Amazon, whose gains are accelerating, isn’t alone in its momentum, Baker wrote. The category of “consumer direct” saw its sales increase in 18.3% in 2015.
