Amazon exec joins same-day Deliv
Former Amazon operations executive Jeff Helms has joined crowdsourced same-day delivery start-up Deliv as head of delivery operations.
Helms spent three years at Amazon in operations management and productivity improvement roles. Prior to Amazon, he spent four years as a professor of military science at Arkansas State University. The West Point graduate also served in the military.
"Hiring Jeff is a major coup and is further acknowledgement of the market leadership position we have established in a fast growing space,” said Deliv founder and CEO Daphne Carmeli. “We are seeing a massive push from some of the country's leading retailers for us to scale our national delivery network quickly. We couldn't find a better fit for us in terms of his extensive logistics operations experience as well as his ability to adapt to our start-up team culture."
According to a Deliv statement, Helms' experience building and managing scalable and reliable logistics networks makes him a natural fit for the fast-growing company. His focus on ensuring an optimal customer experience and knowledge of attaining profitable delivery economics will help broaden Deliv's business and respond to mall operators and retailers' push to scale on a national level.
"Leaving Amazon to join a start-up was a serious decision, but also an easy one once I met the Deliv team and examined their model,” Helms said. “I was blown away by their totally disruptive way of solving the challenges of last mile logistics in today's very competitive world, challenges that all of the nation's retailers need to solve. From my experience building and managing asset-based logistics services, their ability to leverage the crowd offers a scalable and economical solution that will undoubtedly change the game in the delivery environment.”
