An American classic — Allen Edmonds — has opened a prototype whose environment focuses on its lifestyle offerings while also honing in on the timeless, masculine essence of the 95-year-old brand.
Designed by JGA, Southfield, Mich., the new prototype is inspired by mid-century modern design and organized into a series of shopping zones that highlight each component of the brand’s style offering, from casual to business and formal. Each area is designed with a complementary range of finishes and materials, display techniques, and design details.
A focal area within the 1,200-sq.-ft. space is defined by a floor-to-ceiling étagère, which features the company’s bag and attaché collection, and other small leather goods, doing so does so in a way that allows for a 360-degree view of the bags.
In keeping with Allen Edmonds’ attention to detail in its products, the prototype is marked by the use of fine and durable materials, and a sensibility that is stylish but not trendy. Signage is used to explain the many steps, skills, and elements that come into the complex and detailed crafting of Allen Edmonds products.
