Aldi Utilizes Green-Refrigeration Solution
New York City A new, environmentally friendly Aldi supermarket in East Syracuse, N.Y., utilizes a green-refrigeration solution from Hussmann Corp. The 17,500 sq.-ft. store is considered an Aldi Generation 1 building, which incorporates many energy and cost savings and serves as a prototype for future stores.
Among the green products featured in the store are Hussmann's Protocol distributed refrigeration system, which provides more energy efficiency than traditional refrigeration systems. Protocol saves the store energy now and allows for easy system expansion in the future. It also substantially reduces the store's overall refrigerant charge and reduces refrigerant-leak rates by up to 80%.
“By using the Hussmann Protocol refrigeration system, we have been able to fulfill capacity needs and facilitate growth in a scalable format that allows us to save energy," said Aaron Sumida, VP of the Aldi-Tully Division. "In the future, we can add coolers and multi-deck cases and draw off the Protocol system to meet our needs."
