ALCO to Unveil New Eco-Friendly Prototype
Abilene, Kan., Duckwall-ALCO Stores announced Tuesday that it will debut a new prototype for ALCO on Sept. 27 in Louisburg, Kan. The location, which will feature an updated look and environmentally friendly initiatives, will be the first of 14 stores set to open this fall that will incorporate the company's new prototype elements.
The Louisburg store abandons the company’s trademark purple color scheme in favor of a new tan-and-brown palette. Black fixtures replace the traditional chrome and metal.
The roof, ceiling and walls used to build the new prototype are made of nearly 100% recyclable steel. The walls will be assembled in large, pre-insulated panels designed to conserve energy. Eco-friendlier polished concrete will replace carpeted or tiled floors, and T5 fluorescent lights are supplanting traditional lights.
“We are very excited about the fresh look of our new stores, but we are even more excited about implementing so many environmentally friendly initiatives as we build them,” said Bruce Dale, Duckwall-ALCO president and CEO.
