Albertson’s, SuperValu Resume Buyout Talks
Boise, Idaho, SuperValu Inc. said Friday it has resumed talks to acquire Albertson’s Inc., the nation’s second-largest supermarket chain. Albertson’s said earlier Friday that it had received a new offer for the entire company from a consortium that had previously made a bid and that it planned to begin negotiations. It did not name the members of the bidding group. But, later in the day, SuperValu said in a statement that it was a member of the consortium and had resumed talks with Albertson’s.
Neither company said how much was being offered. They also cautioned that there was no guarantee a deal would be reached.
Alberton’s said Friday it does not expect to disclose more details unless it approves a transaction or ends the talks.
