Ahold USA Taps Partners to Integrate Platform

11/30/1999

By leveraging long-term partnerships, Ahold USA is integrating a new platform that will support packaged and customized applications.

The company, owned by Royal Ahold, the Netherlands, is eager to provide a superior and tailored shopping experience across its U.S.-based banners, including Stop & Shop, Giant-Carlisle and Giant-Landover. To achieve this goal, the company is implementing the Oracle Retail platform, which will support strategic initiatives across a broad range of areas, including merchandising, supply chain, store operations, planning and analysis.

To ensure the deployment goes smoothly, Ahold recently entered into a multi-year partnership with long-time partner Capgemini, a provider of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, and Enabler Wipro, an IT and business-services company. Capgemini has helped Ahold’s European banner Albert Heijn streamline product data management to move toward global data synchronization, and the team has also collaborated on cross-industry task forces and associations, including the Global Commerce Initiative and ECR Europe.

For Ahold USA’s project, the team is charged with driving the Oracle Retail deployment, overseeing the project and ensuring that applications are seamlessly integrated.

“Getting consistent information and pricing from our separate applications today is time-consuming and challenging,” said Dave McNally, Ahold’s global CIO. “Oracle Retail will create the foundation for our future retail systems. Additional capabilities will be layered on to this foundation to further differentiate us in the marketplace.”
