Accessories: Shine On

Shimmer and shine continue to be important when it comes to accessories for girls this back-to-school season. Whether it means embellishments on denim, a sparkly scarf or shiny patent leather shoes, ornamentation continues to be strong in the girls’ market.

According to trend experts, patent leather will be the key fabrication for all sorts of accessory items for kids, following the latest in women’s contemporary fashion in recent months.

“I’m seeing glossy looks and shine in shoes, belts, handbags and headwear. It’s all in,” said Sara Rogers, a trend specialist for the Mall of America.

The Children’s Place, which just launched their own shoe line for BTS, is selling a variety of shiny patent shoes for girls this fall. They include Mary Janes in black, cheetah and pink patent leather, as well as buckled loafers and dressy ballet flats also in patent leather. Target sells a bright purple retro patent headband, as well as a patent leather orange snap tote, on its Web site.

GapKids is also big on decorating, featuring Converse All-Stars that are adorned with a rhinestone butterfly pattern and leggings, another key BTS accessory, with lace accents on the bottom.
