Newmark Global Retail goes on a free agent hiring spree
In 2022, Mark Masinter sold his Open Realty Advisors business to Newmark and began to remake the global service provider’s Global Retail unit as its chairman. His game plan set, Masinter has spent the first five months of 2025 drafting a heavy-hitting lineup of retail real estate pros.
Recruits who have landed at Newmark Global Retail since January:
- Greg Masin, a 28-year Cushman & Wakefield leasing veteran leasing in Florida, left his managing director position to join Newmark.
- Masin will be joined in Florida by fellow Cushman & Wakefield Frank Begrowicz, who will serve Newmark in Miami as an executive managing director.
- Former CBRE senior VPs Jonathan Schley and Andrew Turf will now work with top brands on Los Angeles locations as Newmark Global Retail vice chairmen.
- Taking charge of Newmark’s retail business in San Francisco will be broker Ben Lazzareschi and retail adviser David Kessler, both JLL alumni.
“One of the most important goals we’ve set for our Global Retail organization is to stock it with the most talented players in the brokerage and advisory business,” Masinter said. “We want to become the go-to firm for both great brands that want to grow and great landlords that need excellent representation.”
Schley and Turf will operate in L.A. as Newmark Pacific. The duo will advise top retailers on cross-border expansion and first-to-market projects for established brands, with a focus on major cities across North America, Europe — including London, Milan and Paris — and Asia.
In South Florida, Masin and Begrowicz have built a strong track record executing assignments across property types--from high street to urban retail to suburban centers. The pair has executed successful flagship concepts in the region for brands that include Supreme, Fendi, and Alain Ducasse.
In San Francisco, Newmark will count on Lazzareschi and Kessler to bring a deeper wealth of experience to its retail advisory functions. The two have serviced a wide range of top retail brands that include West Elm, Pottery Barn, SoulCycle, Shake Shack, Nike, and Warby Parker.
“We’re not trying to erect a humungous platform,” Masinter said. “We’re focused on finding and hiring the best professionals to join our team. These are all dedicated and wonderful people, and each of them brings to our team a unique skill set.”
