New owners opening four new True Religion stores — here's where
True Religion’s new owners have opened two new stores and have two more planned for fall openings this year.
Already doing business are 2,000-sq.-ft. stores in Las Vegas’s Fashion Show Mall and Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
The others will take up residence in Newport Centre in Jersey City and Queens Center in New York City, doubling the denim brand’s store count in the New York City Metro.
“These new stores reflect the brand’s commitment to growing in markets where their customers are already engaged, representing another meaningful step forward to achieving True Religion’s long-term retail expansion strategy,” said Edward Coury, senior managing director of RCS Real Estate Advisors, which is handling the brand’s expansion.
Aside from jeans, the locations will offer a full product range for men, women, and children. They will also introduce an updated store design including signature denim tables, inclusive half-body forms, and lightbox displays that enhance the in-store experience.
"We partnered with RCS to grow our physical store presence in markets where we see strong demand,” said Michael Buckley, CEO at True Religion. “Their deep industry knowledge and strategic guidance gave us confidence to move forward with these new locations.”
Founded in 2002, True Religion filed for bankruptcy protection in 2017 after its super-popular — and pricey — jeans fell out of favor with consumers. It quickly exited bankruptcy four months later, but filed again during the COVID pandemic.
True Religion was acquired in January by Acon Investments and its partner, SB360 Capital Partners, an advisory and retail investment fund chaired by American Eagle Outfitter CEO and executive chairman Jay Schottenstein.
Acon and SB360 have pledged us use their combined resources and sector expertise to accelerate True Religion's further growth, broaden its geographic reach, and continue the diversification of its product offerings, according to an Acon release filed during the acquisition.
