Conservatives call for boycott of Walmart
The dangers of third-party marketplaces have caught up once more with Walmart.
The discount giant found itself once again embroiled in a controversy over an item sold through its third-party marketplace. Walmart was the subject of an uproar on social media after the chairman of the political group Students For Trump tweeted about a T-shirt bearing the words "Impeach 45," and a onesie for infants bearing the same slogan. (Walmart’s website also features plenty of pro-Trump merchandise, including Make America Great Again caps.).
In response, conservatives are calling for a boycott of the retailer, with the hashtag #BoycottWalmart trending. The items in question are from third-party seller Old Glory, which sells both pro- and anti-Trump merchandise.
Walmart issued a statement similar to what it has issued in similar controversies in the past.
“These items were sold by third-party sellers on our open marketplace, and were not offered directly by Walmart,” a Walmart spokeswoman said, reported marketwatch.com. “We’re removing these types of items pending review of our marketplace policies.”
Last year, Walmart came under fire for selling a shirt that read "Rope. Tree. Journalist. SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED."
