JLL introduces ‘The Mixx’
Mixed-use projects have become the signature retail-based properties of the early 21st Century, and one of the world’s biggest retail property managers has created an entity to focus on them specifically.
JLL’s new mixed-use property management team, The Mixx, has been charged to maximize the value and potential of projects that blend retail, residential, and office space in a single project. The Mixx’s service menu includes property management, marketing, placemaking strategy, and leasing advisory.
Leading the new enterprise will be Sean McNamara, who began his 30-year real estate career as a property manager for both Hines and Cushman & Wakefield.
During his six years with JLL, McNamara served as the client relationship manager for its property management team and was the senior general manager in charge of the repositioning and sale of San Francisco’s Transamerica Pyramid.
“The Mixx leverages the capabilities of a global real estate company while delivering the bespoke, highly curated approach of a startup,” McNamara explained. “This team aims to transform spaces into vibrant, market-leading destinations, establishing unique identities and creating true placemaking experiences.”
According to JLL, the team functions as a dedicated in-house extension of the client's team, staying fully committed to the project while maintaining independence from a typical corporate structure.
“By pooling expertise and resources from across JLL,” said JLL’s press release, “The Mixx transforms mixed-use properties into high-performing, dynamic real estate ecosystems that meet the evolving needs of occupants, create elevated experiences, and drive long-term value for clients.”
Kristin Mueller, JLL’s president of retail property management, noted that JLL found it necessary to create a unit dedicated to mixed-use projects, each of which must satisfy specific, market-driven demands.
“One of the things that The Mixx focuses on in its mixed-use retail strategy is crafting the secret sauce for each individual property,” Mueller said. “It’s not the traditional brokerage model.”
