ICSC president and CEO Tom McGee predicts COVID-19 will curtail retail operations well into 2021.

Confident that the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to dog the retail industry well into next year, the International Council of Shopping Centers has cancelled all live events in the first quarter of 2021 and moved the dates of its premier RECon show to Dec. 5-7 in Las Vegas.

ICSC gave no word on whether its second most-attended event, the New York Deal Making Show, was also being re-scheduled. It usually takes place during the first week of December.

ICSC membership was informed of the moves yesterday in an email from ICSC president and CEO Tom McGee, who wrote that “moving RECon to later in the year gives us the best opportunity to bring the industry back together live in the city and venue most familiar and preferred by our members.”

ICSC had been forced to hold virtual events such as the Next Gen Summit and Retail in the Age of COVID-19 after cancelling its calendar of 2020 events, including the regional Deal Making shows. It plans to run a series of 60-to-90-minute events now through Q1 of 2021.
