International Council of Shopping Centers CEO Tom McGee has emailed association members and would-be exhibitors that the RECon show will not take place in 2020.

Calling the COVID-19 pandemic “the greatest public health crisis in our lifetime,” McGee wrote that the major trade show in retail real estate, whose original May dates had already been cancelled, had been removed from the association’s calendar this year.

The ICSC further cancelled all events scheduled to take place prior to Aug. 15.

ICSC's annual members meeting, where the new board of trustees is approved, is now scheduled to take place in December at the New York Deal Making show.

McGee stated that ICSC was planning to limit its 2020 event schedule to five regional Deal Making shows, beginning with the Florida session in August. The U.S. Law Conference and the CenterBuild Conference are planned to take place, however, all these are subject to change as ICSC monitors the pandemic’s effects.

“This is an unprecedented time in our history and one that has the potential to shape many aspects of our daily and professional lives going forward,” McGee wrote.
