First Look: Brooks Brothers opens NYC flagship in historic building
The oldest retailer in the United States has gone back to where it all started.
Brooks Brothers has opened a 10,000-sq.-ft., two-level flagship on Broadway in downtown Manhattan. The store is located in a landmark building that was the former headquarters of the American Telephone & Telegraph Company, which opened in 1916. (Brooks Brothers' history goes back to 1818, when Henry Sands opened a men's haberdashery in downtown Manhattan.)
The new location marks Brooks Brothers’ third in New York City, with locations at Rockefeller Center and on Madison Avenue. The company operates 141 stores in the U.S. and 334 globally.
Brooks Brothers has retained all of the original historic details, including massive marble columns, large chandeliers and polished bronze detailing throughout the space. It also incorporates a rotating exhibition of historic items from the brand’s archives, such as an exact replica of Abraham Lincoln’s Great Coat, created by Brooks Brothers for Lincoln’s second inauguration.
Other details include an antique mirror from the Brooks Brothers store of that era, as well as some of Henry Sands Brooks and his son’s personal items, and imagery from store locations during the company's earliest years.
"Brooks Brothers has long been a cornerstone of American fashion, and we are excited to return to the Financial District, so near to the roots of our brand’s legacy,” said Ken Ohashi, CEO of Brooks Brothers. "We are thrilled to have discovered this remarkable, historic building and look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors as a vibrant destination in the heart of downtown.”
The flagship offers a complete selection from its men’s and women’s collections of tailored clothing and sportswear designed by Michael Bastian, the brand’s creative director, as well as exclusives only available at the Lower Manhattan flagship.

"Since 2021, Brooks Brothers has experienced impressive, consistent growth year over year," Ohashi added. "The opening of this new New York City store, alongside several more locations planned in the near future, marks an exciting chapter in the continued evolution and success of our brand."
