Sporting goods retailer hires restructuring advisor
Modell’s Sporting Goods is reportedly exploring its options.
The family-owned, 130-year-old retailer has retained Berkeley Research Group as its financial adviser to explore restructuring options, including a possible bankruptcy filing, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. Based in New York City, Modell’s has seen its sales weaken under increased competition from online and from such discounts such as Walmart.
Modell’s operates more than 150 stores in the Northeast.
