Colliers and Placer.ai aim to harvest customer traffic and then evaluate and rationalize it.

In its U.S. Monthly Foot Traffic Report for July, the global commercial real estate services provider Colliers reported that Hobby Lobby, Staples, and Ollies Bargain Outlet scored the highest foot traffic gains for the month.

The source noted at the bottom of that data, however, was Placer.ai. Huh?

In March, Colliers entered into a partnership with the noted foot traffic analytics provider to use its data to better translate foot traffic data with more layers of information such as where they arrived from (Home? Work?) and where they went next.

“What Placer.ai is providing us is a very useful tool relating to footfall that allows us to harvest it, evaluate it, and rationalize,” said Colliers’ national director of retail services and practice groups Anjee Solanki. “It allows us to translate the data to guide and inform our clients on potential sites, existing locations, and movement traffic. So many great layers of communication.”

Colliers serves a wide range of clients that include national brand retailers, private equity investors, and owner-developers.

“We can use the Placer.ai data to analyze and influence property marketing or events hosted at the center,” Solanki said. “If there’s an amazing farmer’s market that draws big crowds to a center, we’ll use it to help us better understand the ROI at the event.”

Colliers’ manager of national retail research Nicole Larson said that the addition of Placer.ai data re-energized its traffic analyses with more scintillating details.

“Foot traffic is just one piece of the puzzle. What the Placer.ai data does is give us the ability to build a really interesting story around our data,” Larson said. “Who were the top 10 traffic brands of the month? How are individual segments performing?”

Placer.ai’s chief marketing officer Ethan Chernofsky is equally as excited about the Colliers-Placer partnership as are Larson and Solanki.

“This partnership is a fulfillment of what we dreamed Placer.ai could become when we started up six years ago,” said Chernofsky. “In my opinion, this level of information allows both Placer.ai and Colliers to provide a greater depth of understanding to landlords and retailers.”
