CBRE names new chief of U.S. retail real estate

John Morris, who had led CBRE’s service line for industrial and logistics real estate sectors, has had his role expanded to serve as leader for Americas Retail at the company.

The 13-year veteran of Cushman & Wakefield joined CBRE in 2018 and now will lead more than 1,600 retail and industrial and logistics professionals across the United States. They were responsible for more than $83 billion in transactions in 2019.

“The retail business is a critical component to our overall business,” Morris said. “We are determined to expand our leadership position, and we will continue to drive best practices and deliver exceptional results thanks to the outstanding efforts of our professionals.”

Morris led Cushman & Wakefield’s Americas industrial business from 2012 to 2018 and was the firm’s retail leader of the Americas from 2017 to 2018.

Also moving up in CBRE’s retail division is 17-year CBRE veteran Bill Wright who had served as senior managing director of the Retail & Advisory Transaction Group’s 10-state Midwest division. Now, as retail leader of platform & markets, he will oversee the development of CBRE’s retail platform throughout the country.
